Elise Empey and Ollie Davis record best ever results at 2024 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships

Aug 31, 2024

Elise Empey (VIC) and Oliver Davis (VIC) have recorded personal best results in the downhill finals of the 2024 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships.

After rain earlier in the week the Andorra dust was back as the best gravity races duked it out for the coveted rainbow stripes with seven of the ARA Australian Cycling Team competing.

Three Australian women would hit the course with Ellie Smith (NSW) the first to drop in as she stopped the clock at 3:10.462.

Hot on her wheel was the Victorian and Empey showed her confidence on the bike as she produced a superb run to shave seconds off her qualifying time and finish with a  3:04.221.

That put her alongside Smith and country woman Sian A’Hern (ACT) on the hot seat.

Empey’s time would see her finish in ninth place overall as Austrian Val Höll  made it three titles in a row.

In the elite men Davis put together a superb run to book a spot on the hot seat 2:40.472 and record the best Australian result.

The Victorian would finish eighth just over a second behind winner Frenchman Loris Vergier.

Luke Meier-Smith finished 53rd in downhill finals.

Jackson Frew made it in into the top 50, while Luke Meier-Smith struggled with illness and finished 53rd with Jackson Connelly another six places behind.
