COVID-19 Update - October 21
Oct 21, 2021
In response to the developing situation nationally concerning COVID-19 outbreaks and related restrictions, AusCycling is providing an update on several events.
Previous updates - September 10 and September 13
After consultation with our hosts, government agencies and the riders we have made the decision to make changes to:
BMX
- AusCycling BMX National Championships
- AusCycling BMX National Cup – Rounds 3 and 4
Road
- AusCycling Junior Road National Championships
- AusCycling Masters Road National Championships
- Cycle Sunshine Coast
Track
- AusCycling Masters Track National Championships
- AusCycling National Junior Track Series
We understand these changes will have a number of different impacts and we remind riders that they can scratch at any time through EntryBoss and receive an immediate refund.
BMX
2021 AusCycling BMX National Championships
With the Queensland Government confirming the opening of their border from December 17, the 2021 AusCycling BMX National Championships scheduled for December 8-12 at Nerang BMX will be moved to December 18-20.
The reason for this change is to allow all riders from all States and Territories the opportunity to attend these Championships, the first since May 2019.
The format of the Championships is currently being finalised. Riders can, however, expect official practice, racing and the opening ceremony to take place between December 18-20.
Further details of this event, including the full schedule and entry information, will be released in early November here.
2021 AusCycling BMX National Cup – Rounds 3 & 4 and Series
The confirmation of the Queensland border opening also means that the 2021 AusCycling BMX National Cup Rounds 3 and 4 scheduled for December 4-5 at Nerang BMX will be cancelled.
With only two National Cup rounds able to be held in 2021, combined with the cancellation of some of the BMX State/Territory Series rounds, and then multiple changes to the scheduling of the BMX National Championships, unfortunately the National Cup series awards will not be presented in 2021.
Road
AusCycling Masters Road National Championships
The 2021 AusCycling Masters Road National Championships will now take place as part of the Road National Championships in Ballarat from January 12-16. Specifically,
- Time Trial (January 12)
- Team Time Trial (January 13)
- Criterium (January 14)
- Gran Fondo (January 15) - this is not the road race championship which cannot be conducted within the event program.
All event details will be released by mid-November.
All entrants who have entered the Championships scheduled for December 2021 will be refunded by AusCycling (no requirement to scratch) and new entries opened as part of the Road National Championships.
The 2022 AusCycling Masters Road Championships will still take place in Wollongong from September 12-16.
AusCycling Junior Road National Championships
As a result of border closures and no other dates available within Shepparton to host the Championships in 2021 the Junior Road National Championships will not proceed this year.
Cycle Sunshine Coast (NRS)
Australian Cycling Academy is currently reviewing options for the event to proceed.
Track
AusCycling Junior Track Series
The first round of the AusCycling Junior Track Series will now take place on January 7-8 in Melbourne instead of December 12-13. Due to this date change, and the close proximity to the Federation University National Road Championships, J19 riders will not be included in the round. For all Under 15 and Under 17 riders there will also be the opportunity to compete in the support races, including the Victorian Junior Criterium Championships, at Bay Crits on January 9.
AusCycling Masters Track National Championships
The AusCycling Masters Track National Championships will no longer be hosted as a National Championships in Brisbane. AusCycling will host a National Track Challenge, based on races conducted in 2021, with other racing opportunities available on November 27-28 where masters aged athletes, will be able to compete for medals and set records. Full details of these opportunities will be released by November 1.
We thank all our riders, partners, hosts and spectators for their understanding and cooperation. These are challenging times and we appreciate the ongoing support of the cycling family as we navigate this together.
Cyclo-cross
As noted previously AusCycling will finalise a decision regarding the Cyclo-cross National Championships on October 26.
