National Advisory Council
The National Advisory Council (NAC) supports the AusCycling Board and management by bringing the perspectives of clubs and members into strategic planning and decision-making. It provides advice on issues affecting the cycling community, contributes to the development and implementation of AusCycling’s strategy, and helps strengthen relationships between AusCycling and its member clubs.

The National Advisory Council is comprised of:
Rob Nelson (Chair)
Rob is a member of Brisbane Cycling Club and an active Masters road competitor who has qualified for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, while also enjoying mountain biking. He brings more than 25 years of executive and leadership experience across sport, tourism and major events, including roles in surf lifesaving, rugby union and Australian football, and work on events such as the Sydney Olympic Games, Rugby World Cup and Tour Down Under. Rob is currently a Senior Advisor with Trivandi, a consultancy specialising in major events, social infrastructure and sport. He is an AusCycling Director and Chair of the National Advisory Council.
James McKee
James is based in Launceston, Tasmania, and has been involved in cycling throughout his life as a junior racer, Masters competitor, coach and commissaire. His experience includes road and track cycling, as well as gravel and mountain biking, and he currently serves as president of Launceston Cycling Club. James has a strong interest in junior development and joined the NAC to contribute a grassroots perspective to the strategic development and long-term sustainability of cycling in Australia.
Leeza Fuzi
Leeza is President of Randwick Botany Cycling Club and a regular criterium and road racer, having started competing in 2019. She is a strong advocate for increasing women’s participation in cycling and creating more opportunities and support for women who want to race. Leeza joined the NAC to help ensure the cycling community has a meaningful voice in decisions shaping the future of the sport.
Brad Bellette
Brad is based in Alice Springs and has been involved with Red Centre BMX for more than 12 years, initially through his son’s participation before taking up racing himself. He is passionate about helping BMX riders achieve their goals and ensuring that cycling communities outside the eastern states are represented in national decision-making. Brad founded Ride Together Australia, a charity supporting developing BMX riders, and brings extensive experience from running businesses in creative services, software and not-for-profit consulting.
Linda Benny
Linda is a Sydney-based mountain biker and President of Garigal Gorillas Mountain Bike Club, where she has volunteered extensively to grow participation, strengthen club governance and support trail advocacy and maintenance. She serves on both the National Advisory Council and AusCycling’s Finance, Audit and Risk Committee, helping ensure clubs and volunteers have a strong voice in the organisation’s future direction. Linda brings more than 20 years of experience in organisational transformation, strategy and leadership, and is committed to making cycling more inclusive, sustainable and enjoyable for riders of all ages and abilities.
John O’Brien
John is based in South Australia and has been involved in downhill mountain biking since the late 1990s, including more than 15 years serving on the board of Inside Line Downhill Mountain Bike Club. He has extensive experience delivering club, state and national-level events and supporting riders ranging from first-time competitors to elite athletes. John joined the NAC to contribute his event-delivery experience, strengthen communication between AusCycling and the cycling community, and support clubs, participation pathways and developing athletes. Outside cycling, he is a partner at an Adelaide accounting firm and works with a number of clients involved in the cycling industry.
Allie Smith
Allie is based in Brisbane and has around 15 years of experience across the BMX and mountain bike communities. Her background includes club administration, event delivery, trail-network management and officiating at club, state, national and international levels across BMX, downhill, cross-country, cyclo-cross and gravel. Allie currently contributes to Outlook Riders Alliance through trail maintenance, riding activities and club governance. She joined the NAC to strengthen club representation, promote practical and consistent national policies, and ensure grassroots perspectives are reflected in decision-making.
James Buchanan
James is based in Perth and has more than 35 years of experience in cycling, including road racing in England, Ireland, Scotland and Europe. A former first-category rider, he has also served as President of Midland Cycle Club across its road and track activities. James is passionate about supporting cyclists at every level, particularly the development and progression of junior riders into senior competition. A geologist by profession, he now runs a mining services company operating primarily in Western Australia.
Jeff Hughes
Jeff has more than 50 years of experience in riding and racing, together with more than 20 years as an event organiser and official. An active member of Canberra Off Road Cyclists, he is a Life Member of Mountain Bike Australia/AusCycling, a national-level mountain bike commissaire and a commissaire trainer. Jeff has contributed to major events including UCI Mountain Bike World Cups, UCI World Championships, the 2018 Commonwealth Games and six Mountain Bike National Championships. He continues to enjoy social mountain biking and gravel riding.
Mat Cork
Mat is based in Brisbane’s northern suburbs and has a lifelong involvement in cycling across mountain bike, cyclocross, track and road, as well as recreational events including European Gran Fondos. He now supports his son’s racing with Hamilton Wheelers and is passionate about growing participation across all cycling disciplines. Mat brings extensive experience from the sports sector, including work supporting preparations for the Brisbane 2032 Games and ten years as National Partnerships Manager for British Cycling, where he contributed to major participation growth. Through the NAC, he hopes to strengthen connections across Queensland’s diverse cycling community and help establish cycling as a major sport, recreation activity and everyday mode of transport in Australia.
Jennifer Szuster
Jen is based in Melbourne and brings more than 20 years of experience across national, state and community sport, commercial organisations and not-for-profits. A former elite lightweight rower, she later became the first female President of Hawthorn Cycling Club after four years on its committee. Jen now runs Strive Sport, a consultancy supporting community clubs with governance, membership growth and strategic planning. Through the NAC, she brings a practical club perspective and a strong interest in helping volunteer-led organisations become more sustainable, well governed and professionally supported.

Marne Fechner (CEO)
Marne has served as Chief Executive of AusCycling since February 2021 and brings extensive experience in national sport leadership, commercial strategy and major-event delivery. She has led large-scale organisational change, partnership development and strategic initiatives designed to strengthen the way national and state bodies work together. Marne is focused on growing cycling and riding across Australia, supporting clubs and communities, and positioning AusCycling for long-term success.
