Developing and Emerging athlete categorisations for 2023/24 announced

May 23, 2023

AusCycling is pleased to announce the athletes categorised as Developing and Emerging in the disciplines of track, road, BMX racing, BMX freestyle and mountain bike XCO for 2023/24.

The AusCycling Developing and Emerging categorisation lists contain 105 athletes, 17 more than the previous year.

The Developing and Emerging cyclists join a further 90 podium-level categorised athletes for 2023 in AusCycling’s Performance Pathway network.

Sarah Nicki, Sophie Marr, Claudia Marcks and Molly McGill are four women named in the 105 who have made their elite-level debut for Australia over the past 12 months in their respective disciplines, highlighting the exciting crop of talent rising through the ranks.

AusCycling Director of Performance Pathways Donna Rae-Szalinski said it is encouraging to witness the growth in categorisation numbers as well as the diversity across all Olympic disciplines.

“A strong talent pool is the foundation for future success by Australia on an international scale,” Rae-Szalinski said.

Athlete categorisation is used to identify, track, and prioritise athletes at each stage of the Performance Pathway, developing a pipeline of athletes to support the national team in consistently winning medals at major international events: namely Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, world championships and Commonwealth Games.
