Australian great Jared Graves calls time on career

One of Australia's best ever all-round cyclists Jared Graves has called time on his illustrious career.

The Queenslander's last race was at the 2022 AusCycling Mountain Bike National Championships in Maydena, where he claimed the elite men short-course cross-country title (XCC).

It would be his 10th national crown across five disciplines which included BMX, Cross-Country, Downhill, Four-Cross (4X) and Enduro.

Graves came to prominence in the BMX arena when crowned Australian Champion before going on to represent his country at the 2008 Beijing Olympics where he would finish sixth.

The same year would see him place second overall in the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) BMX World Cup Series and overall rankings.

In 2009, the Toowoomba-based rider would claim the UCI 4X World Cup overall title before later that year claiming his very first World Championship title on home soil in Canberra, ACT.

Graves also took home the 4X World Cup overall title in ‘10 and’11.

In another change of discipline, Graves would line up in the Enduro World Series and again prove his versatility with a second overall in 2013.

Twelve months later the highly skilled Australian would claim the title.

Graves faced his toughest challenge in 2018 when diagnosed with a brain tumour which saw him undergo chemo and radiation treatment.

He documented his journey on Instagram and inspired many in the cycling community.

He was officially declared cancer free in June 2019.

Graves returned to the podium at the 2021 AusCycling Mountain Bike National Championship where he took home silver in the elite men short-cross Olympic race (XCO) before signing off on his racing career at this year's National Championships.

Graves will remain on the Yeti program, transitioning from racer to Team Performance Coach.
