Sophie Edwards

Adelaide-born Sophie Edwards started out riding with her father at their local velodrome before receiving a scholarship from the South Australian Sports Institute.

In 2018, at the Junior Track World Championships, Edwards won bronze and broke the under-19 Australian record in the individual pursuit.

Since 2019, when she made her elite debut in the UCI Track World Cup, Edwards has become a mainstay of Australia’s track endurance squad.

Her progression culminated in a Commonwealth Games gold medal at Birmingham 2022, where she won the team pursuit alongside Georgia Baker, Chloe Moran and Maeve Plouffe.

In terms of individual results, Edwards has been a national champion in the omnium (in 2021) and individual pursuit (in 2023), as well as winning the team pursuit national title with South Australia in 2021 and 2024.

On the road, Edwards races at the Continental level with ARA Skip Capital. With the characteristics of a strong, punchy sprinter, Edwards became the Oceania road race champion in 2023, the same year she won the Warrnambool Women’s Classic.

After completing an undergraduate degree in health and medical sciences, Edwards is now studying medicine at Flinders University.

She will make her Olympic debut at Paris 2024 in the team pursuit.
