Conor Leahy grew up in the beachside suburb of Secret Harbour in the south of Perth. He followed his father, who raced triathlon, on easy bike rides to the coffee shop before entering local bike races himself.

Leahy steadily progressed as a cyclist, first joining the Western Australian Institute of Sport before being selected for the inaugural intake of the Australian Cycling Team’s Podium Potential Academy in 2018.

He won his first elite title at the 2019 Oceania Track Cycling Championships, taking out the individual pursuit in Adelaide.

Since then, Leahy has been Australia’s premier rider in the men’s individual pursuit. He has won five consecutive national titles (2020–2024) and holds the Australian record of 4:07.356, which he set at the Oceania titles in 2022.

Later that year, he won two bronze medals at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games: in the individual pursuit; and in the team pursuit alongside Josh Duffy, Graeme Frislie, James Moriarty and Luke Plapp.

The West Australian has also been Australian champion in the omnium (2020), Madison (2022, with Duffy), points race and team pursuit (both in 2024).

Leahy was part of the Australian squad that won gold in the team pursuit at the UCI Track World Cup in Milton in 2022.

He was a reserve for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games but made his Olympic debut at Paris 2024, where he helped power Australia to a famous gold medal in the team pursuit.

In Paris, Leahy rode alongside Sam Welsford, Kelland O'Brien and Oliver Bleddyn to set a new world record of 3:40.730 in the first round. In the decider against Great Britain, the quartet executed another excellent race to win gold for Australia for the first time since Athens 2004.

On the road, Leahy won a bronze medal in the individual time trial national championship in 2022.
