Born and raised in Adelaide, as a child Chloe Moran was heavily involved in music and sport, especially field hockey.
However, in early high school, Moran underwent talent identification with the South Australian Sports Institute, which earmarked her for canoeing, kayaking and cycling.
She chose the latter and proved to be a natural: she won her first road criterium (albeit against only a handful of competitors) and, at her first come-and-try session on the velodrome, Moran recalls being one of the few riders brave enough to reach the top of the banking.
In 2015, Moran was part of Australia’s silver medal-winning team pursuit at the Junior Track World Championships. The next year, Moran became the junior Oceania road race champion and junior criterium national champion.
She also won her first elite national title in 2016, taking the team pursuit crown with South Australia. Moran has gone on to win that title five more times with SA (2017, 2021–2024).
Moran has become one of Australia’s best bunch racers on the track. She has six individual national titles to her name: the omnium (2022), scratch race (2023), and four consecutive points race titles from 2021–2024.
At representative level, Moran is a key member of Australia’s track endurance squad. Her standout result thus far is the Commonwealth Games gold medal from Birmingham 2022 in the team pursuit with Georgia Baker, Sophie Edwards and Maeve Plouffe.
She has also raced for Australia at multiple UCI World Championships and in the UCI Track Champions League, where she won the scratch race in London in 2022.
Off the bike, Moran is studying a Bachelor of Medical Science, following in the footsteps of her parents, who work in intensive care.
Moran made her Olympic debut at Paris 2024, where she competed in the team pursuit (finishing seventh) and also started in the sprint and keirin.
