Luke Zaccaria is a tandem pilot for Kane Perris.
The experienced pilot has been at the helm of multiple tandems over the past several years, racing with Brad Henderson and Beau Wootton before Perris.
Hailing from Western Australia, Zaccaria was active as a child playing soccer, Australian football and athletics before he was talent-spotted into cycling when he was 13.
In 2020, Zaccaria won three national titles piloting dual Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Brad Henderson. He also guided Henderson to a sixth-place finish in the tandem sprint at the 2019 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships.
Zaccaria and Wootton represented Australia at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, winning bronze in the tandem sprint and finishing fourth in the tandem 1000m time trial.
Zaccaria switched to piloting Perris, a fellow Western Australian, in 2023 and they raced together internationally for the first time at the 2024 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Their time in Rio ended in heartbreak after crashing on the opening day. Perris sustained a shoulder injury, broke three ribs and punctured a lung as a result of the crash.
The duo remained focussed on achieving their Paralympic dreams and were rewarded with selection to Paris 2024.
