Biography
Kane Perris started his journey to the Paris Paralympics four years ago after participating in a Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) talent identification program.
The vision-impaired athlete started was selected to train as a sprint para-cyclist teaming up with tandem pilot Luke Zaccaria, who himself represented Australia at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
While Perris had ambitions of being selected for the 2020 Paralympics, a serious injury sidelined him for almost 12 months ending his dream of competing in Tokyo.
After undergoing intensive rehab and getting back training on the bike, Perris was selected for his world championships debut in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in March, 2024.
His world championships ended in heartbreak after crashing on the opening day of racing, and sustaining a shoulder injury, breaking three ribs, and puncturing a lung.
After a bumpy road to Paris, Perris realised his dream and gained selection for the Paralympic Games together with Zaccaria. Their best result was fourth in the 1km time trial.
At the 2025 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships in Rio, Perris and Zaccaria won the gold medal in the Mixed Team Sprint alongside Jess Gallagher and Jacqui Mengler-Mohr, setting a word record of 49.288. Perris and Zaccaria also won silver in the sprint and 1km time trial
