Kane Perris started his journey to the Paris Paralympics four years ago after participating in a Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) talent identification program.

The vision-impaired athlete started was selected to train as a sprint para-cyclist teaming up with tandem pilot Luke Zaccaria, who himself represented Australia at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

While Perris had ambitions of being selected for the 2020 Paralympics, a serious injury sidelined him for almost 12 months ending his dream of competing in Tokyo.

After undergoing intensive rehab and getting back training on the bike, Perris was selected for his world championships debut in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in March, 2024.

His world championships ended in heartbreak after crashing on the opening day of racing, and sustaining a shoulder injury, breaking three ribs, and puncturing a lung.

It’s been a bumpy road to Paris, but Perris has finally realised his dream and gained selection for his debut Paralympics together with Zaccaria as his pilot.

Perris’s older brother Chad is also an elite athlete and will join Kane in Paris at his third Paralympics in para-athletics.
