Fifteen months since the last BMX National Round held at the Nerang BMX Club, the Sydney BMX Club opened proceedings for 2021 and delivered a first-class event with over 700 riders per day and 900 motos across the weekend.

In the Superclass event, Jack Davis of Tamworth BMX Club fought hard to take out Round 1 and 2 of the Men's Superclass event. Davis put on a powerful show for the large crowd on hand, not dropping one of the twelve moto races he competed in across the weekend. 2016 Olympian Bodi Turner grabbed silver and bronze in the opening two rounds, which saw the Victorian rocket to outright second on the AusCycling BMX National Cup table.

Sienna Pal extended her lead at the top of the AusCycling BMX National Cup standings after an impressive second round in Sydney. Pal bounced back after a crash in the final race of round one, which brought down half the riders to take out round two of the national rounds. Kiana Botfield of Pine Rivers BMX Club was the most consistent across the weekend, narrowly taking out the opening round and placing third in round two.

Noah Elton and Imogen Healy had successful weekends out in the Junior Superclass field as both riders placed first and third across both rounds, sending them both to the top of the table in their respective classes.

In the challenge classes, Kade McNamara, Harry Rowlands, Tj Rikihana Gray, Paige Cole and Stephanie Alexander continued their scintillating start to the year with wins in both rounds in their respective age groups.

One of the races of the day came in the 12 girls, with Stephanie Alexander marginally besting Isla Basa in the round one final. The two riders were split by less than a second and were the only final that required a photo finish.

In their first national rounds outside of sprockets (riders 7 years and under that are non-competitive and are awarded for participation only) in BMX, forty riders from across the country competed in their first competitive races. Sydney BMX Club’s very own Wynter Bradshaw and Chloe Peaper had rounds to remember, each rider placing in the top three in both rounds of the 8years girls. Jax O’Connell of Pine Rivers BMX Club produced a stunning display in the 8years boys as he clean swept both rounds.

Off the track, the community's generosity was on display as $1414.50 was raised for the Stevens family, who sadly lost their son and brother, Ethan, to a rare form of blood cancer.
