Teya Rufus (Maryborough BMX Club) has won the 2025 AusCycling BMX Racing National Series Superclass Women title before the final round in October following an undefeated weekend at Cross Keys BMX Club for rounds five and six.
With only five women racing Superclass at the Adelaide track, a four moto format was implemented for both rounds, with the 2024 junior women's world champion winning all eight laps.
The 19-year-old now has three rounds wins, three second-place finishes and 388 points in the series, 66 points clear of her nearest rival Mia Webster (Park Orchards BMX Club).
Sienna Pal (Terrigal BMX Club) loomed as the only likely overall threat to Rufus before Cross Keys, but the elite national champion didn't travel to the Adelaide rounds after a busy month abroad in Europe for the opening four rounds of the 2025 UCI BMX Racing World Cup.
That move has allowed Webster, who finished second behind Rufus on both occasions at Cross Keys, to climb up the overall standings, as has Imogen Healy (Tea Tree Gully BMX Club), who rounded out the podium in third on both Saturday and Sunday.
Rufus said it was a fun weekend and that there were definitely a few challenges, despite her dominance.
"My goal going down there was to put into practice a few things that I struggled with overseas and to get a bit of last minute prep before getting to the world champs," she said.
"The track had some challenging sections which made each lap fun trying to make sure I have the speed for the triple at the end of the second straight, which was pretty gnarly.
"And it’s cool to have the series under my belt. I’m excited for the final round of the series where we will hopefully have some more numbers and battles with the girls, As well as the national champs."
Locking up the 2025 series is a reclaiming of the Superclass title for Rufus, who first won it in 2022.
It's also a nice season goal ticked off ahead of her UCI BMX Racing World Championships elite debut in Copenhagen on August 2 and 3 as part of the ARA Australian Cycling Team.
"Obviously it's a super exciting time for me," Rufus said.
"Coming straight out of juniors, it’s a lot mentally and physically that I'm not used to, so I'm excited to just go out there and try my best.
"It’s an incredible opportunity where I won’t have external pressure that I have to deal with being the youngest person in the class. But I'm excited to see where I’m at on the biggest stage of the year."
