National Advisory Council meets to discuss strategic goals

Aug 2, 2023

AusCycling has put in place the final piece of its Advisory Council framework, with the formal re-establishment of a National Advisory Council (NAC).

The NAC complements State Advisory Councils established in each of the eight states and territories and acts as an additional connection between AusCycling, affiliated clubs, and the cycling community.

With the State Advisory Councils focused on immediate challenges within Horizon One of the AusCycling United 2032 Strategy, the National Advisory Council will focus on longer term issues faced by members and clubs.

Current NAC members include:

  • Rob Nelson (NAC Chair)
  • Jeff Hughes
  • Imogen Smith
  • Peter Beaumont
  • Sarah Bryden
  • Brad Bellette
  • Jennifer Szuster
  • Sam Cattonar
  • Renee Cross
  • James McKee
  • Chloe Hosking
  • Agostino Giramondo
  • James Buchanan
  • Marne Fechner (CEO)

The first meeting of the NAC took place on July 24, with insurance and membership growth among the key issues on the table. NAC Chair Rob Nelson said it was immediately apparent at the meeting that a strength of the Council would be its diversity.

“Achieving the right mix on the Council has taken some time, but the diversity and complementarity that we now have is excellent. All disciplines are represented, with members from a range of professional and sports backgrounds, including former athletes,” Nelson said.

“We have managed to assemble a group of people who will bring valuable experience, insights and perspectives on cycling and riding, and how to support the growth and development of our sport. I thank all members of the NAC for investing their time and expertise in assisting AusCycling advance its strategic plan.”

The NAC will continue to meet throughout the remainder of 2023 and into 2024 and will participate in an annual review of performance and the Council Charter.
