MyWhoosh to host an expanded AusCycling Esports National Championships in April

Mar 10, 2025

AusCycling is delighted to announce that the 2025 AusCycling Esports National Championships will be hosted on MyWhoosh as part of Australia’s largest multi-disciplinary cycling event, the Brisbane Cycling Festival.

In an expanded format, AusCycling will award masters and junior national titles in cycling esports for the first time.

Masters and under-19 races will be held online on MyWhoosh on Thursday, April 10 for men and women. The best-placed rider in each category will be awarded their respective national title.

On Friday, April 11, the open men’s and women’s races will be contested both online and in person. Up to six men and six women will be invited to compete in Brisbane at Queensland University of Technology’s The Cube – one of the world’s largest digital interactive learning and display spaces – while all other competitors will participate online.

Each race will be a standalone, all-out final in MyWhoosh’s ‘Australia’ world, held on the Wollongong City Circuit, covering approximately 20 kilometres.

The winners will be awarded a virtual green-and-gold Australian champion’s jersey as an exclusive in-game unlock on MyWhoosh.

It will be AusCycling’s first event on MyWhoosh, the platform that also hosts the UCI Cycling Esports World Championships.

Carlee Taylor, Event Operations Manager (Road and Esports) at AusCycling said, “Hosting our National Championships on MyWhoosh is an important change for cycling esports in Australia.

“It aligns our event with the UCI World Championships, giving Australian athletes a better understanding of the platform.

“It’s particularly exciting to have the opportunity to race our national titles in a virtual Australian world. With a punchy Wollongong route incorporating some of the famous climbs of the 2022 UCI Road World Championships, it’s sure to lend itself to aggressive racing.”

Matthew Smithson, Senior Manager – Esports, Events and Game Operation at MyWhoosh expressed his excitement about the partnership: “We are thrilled to host the 2025 AusCycling Esports National Championships on MyWhoosh. Australia has immense potential in cycling esports and we are seeing the community grow stronger each day.

“With more athletes getting involved in the sport, the future of esports cycling in Australia is bright and we are eager to help foster that growth through our platform, where riders can compete on a global stage.”

Entry to the 2025 AusCycling Esports National Championships will be free to all AusCycling race members in the under-19 category and older. Registrations are now open.

In addition to these Championships, the Brisbane Cycling Festival will offer an extensive program that includes the ProVelo Super League, Oceania BMX Freestyle Championships, AusCycling Track National Championships, Tour de Brisbane, come-and-try sessions and the Sleeman Open Day for families to discover a wide variety of cycling activities.
