If you’re heading to Gippsland for the Foodbank Ride and family day, why not take a few extra days to explore the many diverse and spectacular cycling trails in the Gippsland region and see the other activities Ride Nation Gippsland has to offer.

Gippsland is a cyclist’s dream – the region actually has more cycling trails than any other region in Australia! So, pedal your way through this bountiful region on a short shared pathway through friendly little towns, or for seasoned riders, head to a mountain bike park or follow a historic tramline through forests connecting foodie villages and succulent wineries.

BASS COAST RAIL TRAIL

Victoria’s only coastal rail trail gives you the unique opportunity to take in panoramic views of the rugged coastline on one side and rolling farmland on the other. The Bass Coast Rail Trail rolls 16km (one way) from Anderson to Wonthaggi, via the dramatic seaside cliffs of Kilcunda.

GIPPSLAND PLAINS RAIL TRAIL

This bucket-list journey weaves for 63km (one way) from Traralgon to Stratford through idyllic countryside beneath the impressive vista of the Great Dividing Range. Connecting several cute villages, wineries and the renowned Tinamba Hotel, this is a ride for the foodies - and with rail access you can even ride out and get a lift back to your car!

EAST GIPPSLAND RAIL TRAIL

The East Gippsland Rail Trail is the region’s longest trail, an impressive 96km (one way) from Bairnsdale to Orbost. The trail navigates through peaceful countryside, timeless forests, vast floodplains, offers a side-trip to the Gippsland Lakes, and then spits you out at the momentous Snowy River. Ideal for a multi-day tour or shorter day trips, this flexible track showcases a variety of landscapes laced with warm villages, historic trestle bridges and memorable views.

GREAT SOUTHERN RAIL TRAIL

This epic trail rolls for 72km (one way) from Leongatha to Port Welshpool via South Gippsland’s infamous verdant hills, with 360-degree panoramas interrupted only by welcoming villages and fantastic coffee. The Great Southern Rail Trail can easily be achieved in shorter sections if you don’t fancy the whole slog – in fact, the villages are so inviting you’ll want to linger longer.

GRAND RIDGE RAIL TRAIL

Swing through enchanting hilly countryside and eucalypt forest on this gently descending 13km (one way) trail between Mirboo North and Boolarra. Fuel your energy reserves at one of Mirboo North’s warm country cafes, before your gentle descent through lush forest regrowth from the 2009 bushfires. Enjoy the downhill ride, peppered with river crossings over arch bridges and peaceful farmland. When you arrive in Boolarra, you can celebrate your triumphant ride with a cleansing ale in their rustic country pub.

NOOJEE TRESTLE BRIDGE RAIL TRAIL

This short (6km return) ride punches above its weight for views! Surrounded by majestic, thick forest and beautiful native bush, the track travels from Noojee township to the Noojee Trestle Bridge. The grand structure is a brilliant and well-preserved timber rail bridge, one of the only remaining historic timber trestle bridges in Victoria.
