CX series finale done as overall winners decided in Sydney

Jul 10, 2023

The 2023 Cyclo-cross National Series overall winners were decided at Sydney's Dunc Gray Velodrome for the final two rounds.

Dry and dusty conditions would greet riders as they tackled the course which featured a mix of grass, tarmac, concrete stairs and tetsing off-camber sections.

The age category competitors would carve up the course first before the elite women and men would hit the course later in the afternoon on Saturday and Sunday.

In the elite women it would a one woman show but not the one most were thinking.

Miranda Griffiths would take a strangle hold on the seven-lap race leading from start to finish ahead of the green and gold kit of Rebecca Locke with Claire Aubrey in third.

While in the elite men, team-mates Christopher Aitken and Garry Millburn would make it a two man duel for the first half of the race before the former broke clear with three laps to go to cross nearly a minute ahead of Millburn.

Nicholas Smith would claim bronze.

With the course reversed for Sunday racing the results would be very familiar.

Griffiths made it a double for the weekend with Locke again in second and this time Katherine Hosking in third.

While Aitken again took the top step after nine laps of racing in the elite men.

Millburn would have to settle for the bronze with Smith moving up into the silver spot improving on his Saturday result.
