Jan 19, 2023

Dr Lynne Munro has been appointed AusCycling’s inaugural Head of Inclusion and Connection in a major milestone for the sport in Australia.

In this new role, Dr Munro will lead AusCycling’s commitment to ‘transforming the system’, providing freedom of opportunity for all members of the community to engage in all disciplines of cycling and riding and creating a flourishing eco-system linking people, practice and environment.

“This is about building a vision of unity, co-creating environments where people share belonging and are part of an interwoven story of cycling and riding’s evolution,” Dr Munro said.

“We want to shift how we think and work to harness the power of diverse people and experiences, recognising that the only way to achieve transformational outcomes is to work as one.”

In her new role, Dr Munro will be responsible for:

  • Working collaboratively with AusCycling’s CEO, executive leadership team and Inclusion and Diversity Advisory Group to establish and drive ambition, strategy and operational plans.
  • Developing, evolving and monitoring policy and practice across the organisation to ensure strategic ambitions.
  • Developing and leading initiatives and education that build understanding and implantation of inclusive and connected practices and support system change.
  • Building a culture of co-operative evolution, continual improvement and development across the organisation aligning to purpose and aspirations.

Dr Munro has a wealth of success and experience working across the globe in cycling, including contributing to the high performance programs and pathways of three nations and coaching podium performances at the highest levels of international competition.

She is currently co-leading as national coach of AusCycling’s sprint team and will continue to work as a Performance Specialist with the sprint program ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“It’s an incredibly special statement of belief to be given the opportunity to lead such an impactful area of strategy, while ensuring my specialisms continue to support our sprint program. Matt (Crampton) and I have had a phenomenal year at the helm of the program, and we have Olympic gold aspirations that I remain committed to achieving."

AusCycling Executive General Manager Performance Jesse Korf said Dr Munro’s appointment was an area the organisation was keen to develop and take steps in.

“Inclusion and connection is something that features strongly in our organisational strategy and this new role brings that ambition to life,” Korf said.

“It is an area Dr Munro is incredibly passionate about. I think she has the capacity and drive to really make a positive impact in this new role and we are excited to see her take the next step in her career.”
