More than 700 riders experienced riding on one of Australia's most iconic road circuits as they took part in the 2022 McDonald's Gran Fondo National Championships at the Federation University Road National Championships on Saturday 15 January.

A Gran Fondo is a mass-participation road cycling event for recreational riders of all abilities. The 2022 field contained a broad range of cyclists from across Australia who entered the event with a range of personal goals, from posting the fastest time in their age category to simply finishing the challenging course.

Riders contested five laps on fully closed roads, with the famous 11.6-kilometre course including multiple climbs up Mt Buninyong, which boasts a fierce 5.2% average gradient.

Champions were crowned across 20 age categories ranging from 19 to over 75, with Megan Armitage (1:34:55) and Cameron Fraser (1:29:54) posting the fastest times in the male and female categories, respectively.
