Victoria’s Bodi Turner (Eastfield BMX Club) has won the 2022 Men’s Elite Oceania BMX Racing Championship, leading an all-Australian podium in Brisbane on Friday night.

In the Elite Women’s championship, Erin Lockwood (Nerang BMX Club) was the best of the Aussies, clinching the silver medal behind a rampant Rebecca Petch (New Zealand).

Under lights at Sleeman BMX Supercross Track, Turner took the holeshot in the final and never relinquished the lead, beating Matt Krasevskis (Pine Rivers BMX Club) to the line, with Max Cairns (Park Orchards BMX Club) taking bronze.

Turner and Krasevskis had been evenly matched in the motos, finishing on equal points – though the latter was the only rider with two wins.

But the Olympian saved his best for last, posting the fastest start and fastest lap of the day to control the decider from start to finish.

Brisbane has proven a happy hunting ground for the 27-year-old: in 2015, the last time Brisbane hosted the Oceania Championships, Turner took the silver medal. This year, he settled for nothing less than the continental champion’s jersey.

Rebecca Petch Oceania Championship

Nothing could stop an indomitable Rebecca Petch from claiming her first Elite Oceania title. The 23-year-old Kiwi comfortably won each of her motos, then made no mistake in the final, taking the hole shot and holding her advantage all the way to the finish.

It was a New Zealand one-two-three in the final of the merged competition, with juniors Leila Walker and Megan Williams taking the two-spot and three-spot respectively.

Lockwood crossed the line fourth in a photo finish to take silver in the Elite Women’s category, while Gemma Lee Thomas won bronze.

Desree Barnes (Beenleigh BMX Club) took out the first-ever under-23 women’s Oceania title ahead of Baylee Luttrell (New Zealand) and Kiana Botfield (Pine Rivers BMX Club).

Bella May (Frankstown BMX Club) won bronze in the junior women’s category.

Men Under 23 and Junior

Jack Davis (Tamworth City BMX Club) won gold in the new under-23 men’s category. It seemed to take a few motos for Davis to find his groove, but in the final he showed mastery of the Sleeman track, taking the hole shot and extending his lead to the finish.

Kyle Hill (Ashmore BMX Club) took silver ahead of New Zealand’s Bennett Greenough, with Oliver Moran having to settle with fourth after winning all his motos.

In the junior races, Joel Marsh (Happy Valley BMX Club) pulled off a come-from-behind victory to claim the Oceania Champion’s jersey. After a poor start, Marsh made up metres on race leader Jack Greenough through the middle straights to pass him just before the final corner and clinch victory. Tristan Scott (Ipswich and West Moreton BMX Club) won bronze behind Greenough.
