AusCycling and Zwift Announce Partnership Renewal
Apr 21, 2022
AusCycling is pleased to announce the renewal of their partnership with online cycling platform Zwift which will see cycling esports in Australia continue to rise in both popularity and stature.
This partnership is the culmination of several years hard work and highlights a commitment from both organisations to provide the ultimate cycling esports experience for our growing number of riders across the country.
The refreshed partnership between Zwift and AusCycling is set to feature several events in the all new AusCycling Esports Zwift Calendar, such as the AusCycling Club National Esports Series and the Elite NRS Teams Series.
The first round of the AusCycling Club National Cycling Esports Series begins on Thursday 21 April at 6:30PM AEST and will be livestreamed to the Zwift Community Live Facebook page and the AusCycling YouTube channel.
“The beauty of cycling esports is that it provides an accessible pathway to sport at the highest level. Many of those competing on Zwift are not full-time athletes, they are parents or people with busy full-time jobs. The convenience of on-demand competition from the home allows them to balance their love of competition with the demands of normal life,” said Wes Sulzberger, Senior Zwift Territory Manager, Australia.
“AusCycling also understand that Zwift provides a unique way to connect with the cycling community and also to discover hidden talent. This has been evidenced through the Zwift Academy with Jay Vine who is now competing at the highest level on the road with Alpecin-Fenix. In fact, both Jay and his wife Bre made it to the Zwift Academy finals and were selected by AusCycing for the UCI Cycling Esports World Championships, which Jay went on to win.”
In addition to the AusCycling Esports Zwift Calendar, there will also be ongoing opportunities for AusCycling members to engage in exclusive member-only rides featuring Australian Cycling Team representatives.
“Our partnership with Zwift continues to provide incredible opportunities for cyclists of all abilities to participate together, from club riders to the top-level elites,” said Kipp Kaufmann, Executive General Manager of Sport at AusCycling.
“Australians have been showcasing their strength as a nation of cyclists for many years and are already well represented on the cycling esports world stage, with the recent success of riders including Sarah Gigante and Jay Vine.”
