2025 AusCycling NSW/ACT XCO State Series - Round 2
Hosted by Hunter Mountain Bike Association at Awaba MTB Park
- Mountain Bike
Hunter Mountain Bike Association Club is proud to host Round 2 of the NSW/ACT Mountain Bike XCO State Series for 2025.
The course for this year’s AusCycling State XC Series Round at Awaba Mountain Bike Park draws on the best of the 2024 Nationals layout, with some smart changes to keep things fast, fun, and accessible for more riders. We’ve retained key features from the Nationals Course but removed the toughest climb and the steepest technical descent to improve overall flow and rider enjoyment.
The start chute begins on a stretch of wider "double-track" trail before dropping into the smooth, flowing turns of our Development Trail network. After a short section Riders will emerge onto an uphill stretch of fire road with a brief opportunity to overtake and sort out their order before entering the heart of our main cross-country network.
Early on, racers will be given a choice: take on the A-line rock drop for a fast, direct challenge, or play it safe on the B-line alternative (a great spot near the carpark for Spectators). From there, the course skirts past the main XC trailhead and climbs up double-track to the upper XC loop, where riders tackle the undulating trail into the descent through the "Tunnel of Love" - a good warm-up for both legs and lungs. Because get ready - next comes a short but demanding technical climb, nicely followed by a rewarding drop into the flowing turns and sculpted berms of the upper Switchbacks and Captain’s Call - with a daring gap jump for those chasing seconds.
The course then charges into the choppy light tech of Foxtrot, before opening up left onto Jenkins Road—a "welcome" fire road section with space to overtake and regroup (oh yes, and another climb). Riders will then turn left back into the trail network, pushing out toward Chemtrails and the fast A-line jump feature from the Nationals - or is the B-line quicker if there are riders in front?
As the lap begins its journey back toward home, the trail sweeps around our newest water feature—“Lake Mac”—before one final short stretch of open fire road and a left turn back into the Development Trail network for the run to the finish - it's all the fun of the turns and rollers with the leg-burning challenge of constant charging toward the finish line back at the HMBA XC Container. The glory won't come easy - but neither do victories worth having.
This course is all about momentum, smart decisions and flow, with just enough technical spice to keep things interesting.
