About the Course
The Advanced Instructor MTB Course is tailored for instructors who wish to support riders advancing to technical terrain. This course equips you with the tools to effectively and confidently teach on black-grade trails and features. Through a variety of instructional methods, you'll learn to assess rider capabilities, build confidence from intermediate to advanced techniques, and deliver sessions that enhance participants' riding capability, smartness, and safety on challenging terrain. Additionally, you'll develop robust risk management strategies tailored to technical and remote environments.

Advanced Instructors are recognised for their capability to support riders on the most technical aspects of mountain biking. This accreditation enables you to contribute to clubs, schools, commercial operators and community programs requiring higherlevel instruction. Course Requirements
To enrol, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Hold a current AusCycling membership (minimum Lifestyle membership)
- Hold a valid Working with Children Check
- Hold a Provide First Aid Certificate (HLTAID003/HLTAID011 minimum)
- Hold a current AusCycling Development Instructor MTB Accreditation
- Complete Sport Integrity Australia’s Safeguarding Children and Young People in Sport Induction on the AusCycling Learning Centre.

Course Overview
Webinar: Held in the week prior to the practical component, typically on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening.
Practical Sessions: Three days of facetoface learning, delivered either Friday–Sunday or Saturday–Monday.
Enrol Online: View upcoming courses via the Course Calendar or submit an Expression of Interest.
Prerequisites
- Instructing Experience Log: Submit evidence of 40 additional hours of instructing since completing the Development Instructor MTB course. Download the template here.
- Personal Riding Experience Log: Provide examples of riding blackgrade trails across varied conditions and locations. Recreational riding and competition experience are both accepted. Download the template here.
- Skills Demonstration Video: Submit a video demonstrating strong intermediate to advanced riding skills, including the required AIMTB trail skills, send this through as soon as able. Download the template here.
Cost $1200 per person
Additional Information
- The Advanced Instructor MTB Course is offered two to three times per year.
- Supporting documentation must be submitted at least six weeks before the course date.
- One week before the course, participants receive final venue details, daily schedules and equipment requirements.
- Accreditation is finalised once all prerequisites are verified and approved.

- Riders with elite category results (e.g. top 10 at National Championships DH, top 30 at a World Cup DH, or equivalent XC/Enduro results within the past two years) may apply for an exemption from the video submission. Email your request and results to [email protected].
