Sarah Nicki began riding BMX at age 7 with the goal of being better than her dad, who had recently taken up the sport.
After first trialling BMX racing, BMX freestyle and mountain bike, Nicki settled solely on Freestyle at age 12.
Her first taste of senior competitive riding came in 2019 at the Vans Pro Cup in Sydney, where she rode unscored against the other women competitors, as she was too young to compete.
Later that year, in her last event as a Junior, Nicki would win the 2019 Oceania Championships.
After COVID forced the closure of skateparks for much of 2020 and 2021, Nicki entered her first year of Elite Women’s competition in 2022, where she promptly won the Oceania and Australian National Championships, and was selected to compete in the World Championships in Abu Dhabi.
A top 16 finish at the final round of the UCI World Cup followed, with Nicki awarded AusCycling BMX Freestyle female athlete of the year for her meteoric rise in the sport.
Nicki and her family relocated from Canberra to the Gold Coast in 2023 to train with the Australian National team. The move proved to be a success, with Nicki securing back-to-back Oceania and Australian National titles.
Nicki became a staple of the Australian National team in 2023, competing at the World Cup round in Montpellier, France and the World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.
The Canberra native continued her strong performances in 2024, claiming silvers in the Oceania and Australian National Championships, and securing a top ten finish in the World Cup round in Japan.
