The Home of Track Cycling in Victoria
The Joe Ciavola Velodrome, also known as DISC Velodrome, is the premier indoor velodrome in Victoria. Opened in 2004, it served as the training ground for teams competing in the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games. Today, DISC remains the training venue for the VIS track team and has hosted numerous prestigious events, including the Melbourne Cup on Wheels and Austral. The velodrome boasts a rich history, with Australian and World records broken on its 250-meter timber track with a maximum banking of 42 degrees.
The velodrome is named after Joe Ciavola, a prominent figure in Victorian cycling. Ciavola competed as an amateur, winning prestigious races like the Melbourne Cup on Wheels and the Sixes. His dedication to the sport ultimately led to the construction of the DISC velodrome.
