Volunteer roles open for Wollongong 2022
Apr 28, 2022
You can now apply to volunteer at the 2022 UCI Road World Championships in Wollongong this September.
Organisers are seeking enthusiastic people to go behind the scenes and deliver the first road world championships in Australia since 2010.
Wollongong 2022 has put out a call for over 1,500 passionate volunteers to help in five main categories:
- Welcome and hospitality crew;
- Signallers and stewards;
- Service team;
- Fleet and transport team; and
- People and communications crew.
Event ambassador Governor-General David Hurley AC DSC said volunteering was a special way to participate in an Olympic-scale celebration of cycling.
"Being part of a major international sporting event such as the World Championships or the Olympics is an unforgettable experience and a unique opportunity to work with others behind the scenes to create a lasting legacy for Wollongong, for Australian cycling and for our country," Mr Hurley said.
"I recall hearing from the Sydney 2000 volunteers how fun, inspiring and rewarding the experience was and I'm sure Wollongong 2022 will be equally as memorable."
Wollongong 2022 CEO Stu Taggart said volunteer applications would be open for one month, so prospective registrants should act quickly to secure their position.
"We welcome all applications from eligible candidates, and we value a diverse and inclusive workforce that celebrates the unifying power of major events such as the UCI Road World Championships,” Mr Taggart said.
"Come and join us behind the scenes, see what makes the wheels turn on an international sport event, meet new people and be part of this transformational moment for Wollongong and Australian cycling."
The 2022 UCI Road World Championships will take place in Wollongong, NSW from September 18–25.
Candidates for the Wollongong 2022 volunteer program supported by Wilson Asset Management must be aged 18 and over, be fully vaccinated and be able to fill multiple shifts during the event period to be eligible for a role.
