AusCycling has today published its Rider Development Principles, outlining the key elements that matter most in progressing through the performance pathway from talented junior to world-class rider.
Today's publication is the latest from Project Ascent B2032+, through which AusCycling is implementing the recommendations that resulted from an independent review earlier this year.
The 10 principles, which will provide a unified approach to best practice in junior athlete development, are:
- Behind every great rider is a great development coach
- Skills are king
- Progress needs a plan
- Racing is your learning laboratory
- Value effort over equipment
- Find your tribe
- Character wins medals
- Win well, on and off the bike
- Parents support the journey
- Opportunities, choices, never guarantees
