AusCycling publishes Rider Development Principles, selection policies

AusCycling Performance Pathways Rider Development Principles

AusCycling has today published its Rider Development Principles, outlining the key elements that matter most in progressing through the performance pathway from talented junior to world-class rider.

Today's publication is the latest from Project Ascent B2032+, through which AusCycling is implementing the recommendations that resulted from an independent review earlier this year.

The 10 principles, which will provide a unified approach to best practice in junior athlete development, are:

  1. Behind every great rider is a great development coach
  2. Skills are king
  3. Progress needs a plan
  4. Racing is your learning laboratory
  5. Value effort over equipment
  6. Find your tribe
  7. Character wins medals
  8. Win well, on and off the bike
  9. Parents support the journey
  10. Opportunities, choices, never guarantees
