National Club Esports Series: status quo after gravel stage

Oct 2, 2021

Vikings Cycling Club remains in control of the National Club Esports Series after Round 3 on Wednesday evening.

The hardest stage of the series so far saw riders tackle two laps of Zwift’s “Chain Chomper” circuit on Makuri Islands. The 30-kilometre race featured 361 metres of elevation gain, including two crucial ascents of the Temple KOM gravel climb.

For the first time this series, no Vikings rider won their race. However, among their 21 competitors, Shivang Sachar (B Grade Men), Jonathan Lowe (D Grade Men), Kirsty Lower (C Grade Women) and Katie Gregory (D Grade Women) all contributed high placings towards their club’s formidable tally.

Vikings CC now sits on 946 points, over 200 ahead of their cross-town rivals.

For Canberra Cycling Club, Vicki Whitelaw and Ben Hill continued their incredible streaks in the top divisions, taking their third and second A-Grade wins on the trot respectively.

The six-round series continues next Wednesday night, 6:30PM AEDT on the flat road race course, Watopia’s Waistband.
