AusCycling Staff Appointment: Ag Giramondo appointed to GM Commercial, Member & Club Development

Feb 18, 2021

AusCycling is pleased to announce the appointment of Ag Giramondo to the newly formed role of GM Commercial, Member & Club Development.

Giramondo, who is a highly experienced executive, comes to AusCycling with a strong commercial and stakeholder management background having held senior roles with News Corp and most recently carsales.com.au. He joins the AusCycling Executive team with a strong background in cycling, having been President of one of the country’s largest Clubs, the Brunswick Cycling Club, for the past 5 years.

With a mandate to develop AusCycling into one of Australia’s most successful sport brands, AusCycling Chief Executive, Marne Fechner, said Giramondo was an ideal addition to the leadership team.

“Ag not only brings a passion and knowledge of the sport, but strong commercial and leadership experience.” Fechner said “building a successful commercial program and thriving club network will underpin our future growth and success as a sport. We welcome Ag to the AusCycling team and know he will hit the ground running.”

Giramondo is excited to be joining not only a new team, but a new organisation. “It’s an opportunity to be part of something meaningful and special.”

“I am looking forward to working with Marne, the executive team, the state GM’s and Clubs to build a stronger and larger network that is a compelling proposition to cyclists and commercial partners. If we get this right, we can take our sport to new heights in both participation and financial support. We have to believe we can do this.”

Giramondo acknowledged with excitement to major reform undertaken by the sport in 2020, “we are starting a new organisation from scratch and I see our greatest strength is unity. A united sport, bound by the values of respect, inclusion and curiosity, will realise its potential.”

“I love all sport, but cycling is my sport. My family has been involved in cycling for over 70 years and I see the power of the bike every day. Riding a bike gives us a reason to connect, to lower our guard and to build relationships that stand the test of time.”

Giramondo will join AusCycling on 1 March.

AusCycling was formed in October 2020, on the back of one of Australian sport’s largest governance reforms and the merger of BMX Australia, Mountain Bike Australia and Cycling Australia.

Now representing over 52,000 members across BMX, BMX Freestyle, Cyclo-Cross, E-Sport, Mountain Bike, Para-Cycling, Road, Track and Lifestyle (recreational and commuter) riding throughout Australia and a community of over 4 million cyclists.

Our vision is to make Australia a nation of bike riders, to advocate for our riders’ safety, build strong club communities and to make all forms of cycling accessible to everyone be it on a track, off a jump, in the great Australian bush or on the road.
