AusCycling partners with 99 Bikes to get more Australian kids on bikes

AusCycling and 99 Bikes are pleased to announce a new partnership aimed at getting more Australian kids on bikes through AusBike, AusCycling’s bike education program.

As Australia’s largest specialty bicycle retailer, with more than 70 stores nationwide, 99 Bikes will support an expanded rollout of AusBike programs in primary schools across all states and territories.

The partnership will help deliver almost 200 AusBike incursion days over the next two years, giving more than 15,000 additional children the opportunity to learn essential bike skills and experience the freedom and confidence that comes with riding.

The initiative comes as participation in cycling among children continues to decline.

Since 2011, the number of children riding bikes has fallen year-on-year. Over the past four decades the number of kids riding to school has declined by 50 per cent.

Children have experienced a greater decline in participation than any other age group, highlighting the importance of providing opportunities for young people to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to ride.

Through the partnership, AusCycling and 99 Bikes are committed to helping more children discover the joy of riding and build skills that can support a lifelong connection with riding.

Kipp Kaufmann, AusCycling, EGM Clubs and Community said the partnership would provide an important boost to the AusBike program.

“We’re thrilled to welcome 99 Bikes on board as a partner of AusBike and AusCycling. We have an amazing team around the country teaching kids to ride and enjoy the freedom and independence that comes with it.

“With this support from 99 Bikes, we’re confident we get kids either back on their bikes, or on bikes and riding safely and confidently for the first time.

“It’s not just a school program either, AusCycling and 99 Bikes are eager to work with clubs who are keen to grow their junior participation.”

Jacquie Sharples, Pedal Group, ESG Leader, said supporting more children and families to get on bikes made the partnership a natural fit.

“We’re really excited to partner with AusCycling to help supercharge the AusBike program. Supporting more people, especially children and families, to get on bikes is at the heart of what we do, so partnering with AusCycling and AusBike felt like a natural fit.

“Through this partnership, we hope to bring bike education to thousands of children across Australia, helping build the skills, safety knowledge and confidence that can support a lifelong love of riding.”

The partnership commences in Term 4, 2026 and will run until mid-2028.
