AusBike wins prestigious UCI Cycling for All Award

Dec 19, 2024

AusCycling’s ground-breaking bike education program AusBike has taken out the inaugural UCI Cycling for All Award at the 2024 UCI Mobility & Bike City Forum in Abu Dhabi overnight.

The UCI Cycling for All & Sustainability Awards are a new initiative of the UCI, and recognise outstanding initiatives implemented by members of the global cycling community.

The Cycling for All Award recognises a cycling initiative with significant social impact.

The announcement caps off remarkable few weeks for AusBike, with the program recently passing 50,000 registered participants since launch.

AusCycling Executive General Manager of Clubs and Community Enhancement Nikki Horton said the award reflected the huge amount of work that had gone into the program.

“We are obviously absolutely thrilled with this award, and I want to personally congratulate everyone involved with AusBike, from the Community Development Coordinators to the Project Team, to club and centre administrators, and of course to the AusBikers themselves,” Horton said.

“Our goal has always been to get kids back on bikes, and receiving an award like this from the international governing body for cycling confirms that we are having a positive social impact on the health and wellbeing of children.

“We can be very proud of the amount of work that has gone into AusBike over the last two-and-a-half years, and to have this recognition to round out the year is just super exciting. Well done again to all involved.”

AusBike was a finalist in the category along with British Cycling’s inclusivity program Limitless, and Team Visma Lease a Bike’s initiative Ready2Race, which offers low-threshold events to introduce young people to cycling.

Winners were selected by a panel of seven representing various fields of cycling expertise, including active mobility, sustainability, academia, the media and professional cycling.

Other categories of UCI Awards include the Climate Action Award, the Bike City Award, and the Rainbow Award, a special award selected by the jury out of all submissions.
