Armed with a powerful sprint in bunch races and an explosive team pursuit start, Josh Duffy has carved out a place as one of Australia's premier talents on the track over the past several years.
Duffy was born in Brisbane but grew up in Launceston where he began track cycling at the age of 14 in 2014 as a member of the Launceston City Cycling Club after being selected by the Tasmanian Institute of Sport talent identification program.
After rising through the ranks domestically he made his Australian Cycling Team debut in 2019 at the 2020 Oceania Track Cycling Championships in Invercargill, New Zealand, winning gold in the team pursuit.
A month later he travelled to Glasgow, Scotland, to make his UCI Track World Cup debut (now known as UCI Track Nations Cup) in the team pursuit.
Duffy was then elevated to the Podium Potential Academy at the end of the year and relocated to Adelaide.
The Tasmanian won his maiden elite track national championship in the scratch race at the 2020 AusCycling Track National Championships in Brisbane.
Duffy picked up three national titles in 2022, repeating his feats in the scratch race and winning the 1km time trial, and Madison alongside Conor Leahy.
After an extended Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games cycle further Australian Cycling Team opportunities arose in 2022, starting with a winning team pursuit return to the UCI Track Nations Cup in Milton, Canada.
A Commonwealth Games debut came calling at Birmingham 2022 where he won bronze in the team pursuit and raced in the scratch race.
A UCI Track World Championships debut followed in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, France, where Duffy raced in the team pursuit, scratch race and elimination race.
Duffy enjoyed a near-repeat Australian Cycling Team year in 2023, racing at the Milton UCI Track Nations Cup and at the 2023 UCI Track World Championships in Glasgow, where he raced in the team pursuit, scratch race, points race and elimination race.
Duffy's lone Australian Cycling Team selection in 2024 came at the Hong Kong stop of the UCI Track Nations Cup.
On the road, Duffy picked up a silver medal at the 2022 Road Nationals in the under-23 men's criterium and finished seventh in the Melbourne to Warrnambool that same year.
