Despite the challenging year that has been 2020, the This Girl Can campaign by VicHealth has managed to achieve some impressive and inspiring results. 1 in 7 women throughout Victoria found the motivation to get out and get active, lockdown or not.

This Girl Can – Victoria inspired almost 320,000 Victorian women to get active this year, up from 291,800 in 2019 and 285,700 in 2018. The campaign this year which featured real Victorian women with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and body shapes, led to a third of women who saw the ad being inspired to move and do something active. Importantly the campaign supported women to be active during coronavirus by providing beginner-friendly, body-positive workouts women could do at home.

AusCycling Victoria was again part of the This Girl Can campaign this year. We were fortunate to be able to run a This Girl Can Learn to Ride session with the City of Manningham in March just before the coronavirus restrictions came into force and then a This Girl Can Try Track session with the City of Darebin in November as the restrictions lifted.

“We're very proud to be part of This Girl Can and have enjoyed partnering with organisations across Victoria to support and inspire more women to get active, and ride their bikes,” Said AusCycling Victoria’s Participation Coordinator, Sarah Smith.

“It has been a challenging year but despite the restrictions, the coronavirus lockdown has had some very positive outcomes for cycling - we've seen a huge rise in the number of women returning to riding or discovering riding for the first time.

“AusCycling is committed to supporting women to ride so head over to the Ride Nation marketplace to find programs, activities, events and adventures that suit your needs”

As well as getting as many women active and riding bikes as possible, AusCycling Victoria is also committed to giving anyone and everyone the chance to try cycling.

Have you ever wondered what it feels like to ride around a track, completely free from the noise, pollution, and danger of passing cars? Ever wondered how it feels to ride around banks with angles that seem to defy gravity? Looking for a style of training that does not impact joints and is suited to people of all ages?

If so, then an AusCycling Victoria Come N Try Track Session at DISC is for you.

Targeted at people 13 years and over, these sessions allow you to experience the thrill of track cycling under the guidance and support of nationally qualified coaches. Try something different, learn new skills, with your friends and others looking for a fun and unique experience.

During the summer months (November to March), AusCycling Victoria runs Come N Try Track sessions monthly on a Friday evening from 6:30 – 8:30pm.

During the rest of the year (April to October), Come N Try Track sessions are run monthly on a Sunday afternoon.
