What do the MTB members of the Coffs Harbour Cycle Club do when it’s too wet to ride?
They pick up after everyone else, literally.
On a recent working bee around the Pine Creek State Forest situated near Bonville, where their trails are located, the team spent the day cleaning up.
They would end with 250kg of domestic waste.
“There were kid’s toys, kids nappies just everything you could imagine and six tyres,” said the club’s Michele Strazzari.
“It does make you angry but the best thing to do is just get in and clean it up and do the right thing so we can all enjoy the trails.”
While the club holds regular trail workshop days, they are now even more vigilant to ensure their network is well maintained and cared for. All part of being a mountain bike rider they say.
“It doesn’t stop at just making the trails, we need to also protect the land and the wildlife that inhabit the same area we get to enjoy.”
The club have been working with the Forestry Corporation in a bid to maintain the Pine Creek Forest.
