AusCycling is pleased to announce the riders selected to the Australian team to contest the 2022 UCI Junior Track World Championships, which will be held from August 23 – 27, in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Twelve athletes have been selected for the first Australian team to compete at the Junior Track World Championships since 2019.

The quartet of Leo Zimmermann, Dylan Proctor-Parker, Noah Blannin and Tarun Cook will be looking to replicate their form at the recent 2022 Oceania Track Cycling Championships, which saw the team break the under-19 Oceania Championships record in the men’s team pursuit.

Ryan Elliot will also head to Tel Aviv after recently breaking the national under-19 men’s flying 200m time with a time of 10.183 before breaking the Oceania Championships record a week later with a time of 10.170. Under-19 team sprint national champions Dylan Stanton and Max Liebeknecht round out the seven-man squad for Israel.

On the women’s ledger, Sophie Marr has been selected after an impressive #TrackNats22, following this up with an under-19 Oceania Championships record in the individual pursuit. Tyler Puzicha will join Marr after a successful track season which included gold in the under-19 women’s time trial at the National Championships and Oceania Championships.

Under-19 sprint national champion Emma Stevens, as well as South Australian duo and silver medallist in the under-19 women’s Madison final Summer Nordmeyer and Meg Marker, complete the team.

AusCycling’s participation in this event is contingent on a thorough risk assessment that will be conducted prior to any scheduled departure of athletes and officials.

“Attending the Junior Track World Championships is an excellent opportunity for our young athletes to experience the demands of international competition, including the race experience and lifestyle experience,” said Donna Rae-Szalinski OAM, Interim Director of Performance Pathways.

‘It is an educational step in the high-performance pathway and a welcome return to the process after an absence in 2020/2021.’
