Sweet Silver In Switzerland

Rebecca McConnell has bounced back with a powerhouse ride to claim a silver medal at the Mercedes-Benz UCI MTB World Cup round in Lenzerheide Switzerland.

McConnell lined up on the second row and would have to fight her way back from 11th after lap one to join a lead group of six, including Friday's short track winner Jenny Rissveds and recently crowned World Champion Evie Richards.

At lap four Richards split the group with an attack on the tarmac climb, which was enough to pull clear at the front with McConnell doing the chasing, along with Sina Frei close behind in third and buoyed by the roaring Swiss crowd.

There was drama for Frei, who had a rear wheel puncture and was passed in the pits by Leona Lecomte and Rissveds.

Out in front, Richards was under pressure from the Australian, but kept things smooth and strong as she rode the rainbow stripes to her first World Cup win, crossing the line 19 seconds ahead of McConnell with Rissveds taking the final step of the podium.
