AusCycling is excited to announce the 2022 BMX Racing calendar, highlighted by the 2022 BMX National Championships in Launceston, as well as two new locations for the AusCycling BMX National Series.

Launceston BMX was due to host the 2020 BMX National Championships however the event was cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic. It will be the first time since 2002 that Australia’s premier domestic BMX event is held in Tasmania and the first time in 28 years the nationals has taken place in Launceston.

The AusCycling National Cup is back for 2022 with points from the AusCycling National Series (previously named the National Cup Rounds), State/Territory Championships and Series all contributing to where you stand across the country.

The AusCycling BMX National Series will begin in early 2022, with Adelaide playing host to the opening rounds during the Santos Festival of Cycling. The series openers are due to be held at the new Sam Willoughby BMX Facility (SW BMX Facility). AusCycling is working closely with the SA Office of Sport and Recreation and Marion Council to monitor construction progress.

If the facility is not ready in time, Rounds 1 and 2 will be contested at The Cove BMX Club.

Sleeman BMX track will hold the third round of the series and the 2022 Oceania Championships, the first Oceania Championships since 2019. This will be the first major BMX event the track has held since being named host of the 2026 UCI BMX World Championships for the first time in the event’s history.

Red Centre BMX, in the heart of the Northern Territory, will hold the first National Series rounds in the NT since 2019 and the first National event in Alice Springs since 1988, with hundreds of riders set to make the trip to the heart of the country.

The sixth and final round of the National Series will take place at Launceston BMX in the lead up to the 2022 BMX National Championships.

Further details on the National Series events and entry information will be uploaded to the National Series page.

The Mighty 11s Test Team is back with a full schedule of qualifiers and events lined up for 2022. The qualifiers will follow the National Series with the first qualifier event in January, followed by the Australian event at Sleeman BMX in April. The second qualifier will occur during the National Series in Alice Springs, with the second event taking place in New Zealand.

More information on the Mighty 11s Test Team will be released in the coming months.

“The 2022 BMX Racing calendar is filled with a variety of events for all levels of riders which I am excited to see after the past 2 years of disappointment and frustration the Coronavirus pandemic delivered upon us,” said AusCycling BMX Sport Manager Luke Madill.

“To kickstart the year in Adelaide on a brand new Supercross track that Sam has spent a lot of time overseeing is exciting, and a great way to get the National Series started.

“It’s fantastic that Launceston will have another opportunity to host the National Championships, and it will be great to get back down to support the event after all the hard work the club had put in to ensure the track was ready to deliver the 2020 BMX National Championships.

“Alice Springs brings back so many memories for me as it was my first ever National Title winning the 7 year boys.

“To see the club being provided with the opportunity to deliver a National Series event, with riders and families travelling to the Red Centre experiencing BMX racing is great for the sport.

“I am hoping 2022 sees an uninterrupted year, to allow the riders and families the opportunity to enjoy the fantastic sport we are a part of."

AusCycling thanks every club and State Advisory Council member who helped and assisted in developing the 2022 BMX Calendar.

State/Territory Series and National Series Guides will be released in the coming weeks which will detail information on points and participation requirements.
