AusCycling seeks the next Chair for a new era

AusCycling is seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to become its new Chair and help guide Australian cycling through its next evolution.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the governance of an organisation that represents all Australian riders across BMX, BMX Freestyle, Cyclo-Cross, ESport, Mountain Bike, Para-Cycling, Road, Track, recreational, and commuter.

The successful candidate will be a key contributor to a strategy that improves our riders’ safety, builds strong club communities and makes all forms of cycling accessible to everyone, be it on a track, off a jump, in the great Australian bush or on the road.

The Chair of AusCycling will be responsible for governance leadership through the Board of independent directors. The successful candidate will need to harness the collective skills of the Board and Executive to ensure all stakeholders are represented and strategic objectives fulfilled.

AusCycling’s central functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Acting as the peak body for all cycling disciplines in Australia as recognised by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI),
  • Regulating, conducting, promoting, advancing, and managing all forms of cycling in Australia,
  • Encouraging investment in cycling infrastructure at all levels of government and for the benefit of all riders,
  • Advocating for cycling in the private, public and government spheres,
  • Promoting the importance of cycling standards and rider education,
  • Selecting, preparing and entering Australian teams in international cycling competitions, and
  • Affiliating and liaising with Sport Australia, the Australian Olympic Committee, Commonwealth Games Australia and other bodies as required.

Expressions of interest for the role of Chair are sought from highly credentialed individuals with relevant skillsets and a passion for advancing all forms of cycling in Australia. Key attributes should include:

  • High-level leadership and vision, and the ability to articulate a clear organisational strategy and direction,
  • Expertise in governance at a Board level,
  • Extensive sport management/sport administration experience,
  • Significant business and/or financial management skills.

The successful candidate will also possess advanced stakeholder engagement skills to ensure excellence in leading Australia’s high-performance cycling system while developing the pathways, clubs and communities that help create elite athletes.

The maximum term for service on the Board is 3 terms of 3 years and the Board is scheduled to meet six to eight times per year.

AusCycling has appointed Maritana Partners to assist with the transition from current Chair Duncan Murray who recently reaffirmed his decision to leave after guiding the organisation for the first 12 months of its existence.
